Wellness -- See How It Improves Your Bottom Line!

As a business owner, you may consider a wellness program as an expense. However, the tables are turning and many are seeing that a wellness program is not only an investment into the well being of your employees but an investment to help bottom line results in your company!  Take a look at these case studies.

Case Study #1

Snyder Insurance implemented a wellness program with a client with 50 employees.  The Program included:

  • Health Risk Assessments and Biometrics.
  • PSA Tests
  • Thyroid Tests

Cost to employer for tests and incentives to participate was $4,815 or $96.30 per employee.

Three Reported Success stories:

  • One extreme high blood pressure was at a life endangering point. Caught in time to prevent stroke or heart attack.
  • One extreme high cholesterol-caught in time to prevent heart attack
  • One prostate cancer- caught in early stages in a young man who wouldn’t have qualified for screenings through most insurance programs. Caught in time so no prostatectomy was needed and no metastasis.

Employer believes on the low end, the medical costs for these three employees would have been over $100,000 --  a conservative savings of $95,185.

Case Study #2

Snyder implemented our own wellness program in 2005. This was based on 30 employees. The program included:

  • Health Risk Assessments and Biometrics.
  • PSA Test
  • Thyroid Tests

Also includes: flu shots, wellness reimbursements up to $240 for fitness centers, quarterly lunch & learns, quarterly wellness challenges, incentives including medical reimbursement for preventative care (check ups, mammograms, pap smears, etc) and other incentives.

Results since 2005-

  • Overweight employees dropped from 45-39%.
  • Annual healthcare costs dropped from $182,000 annually to $106,000.
  • Average number of sick days per employee dropped from 3.8 annually to 2.4.
  • Healthcare cost savings in 2009 - $55,776.
  • Average cost per employee for wellness program was $200.
  • Rate of return per employee was $1,659.

Testimonial

“Several years ago, our company decided that we wanted to start a wellness program. Snyder Insurance assisted us in setting up a wellness screening and also in evaluating the results so that we could target the areas where we saw the most problems. Since the first screening, with Snyder’s help we have offered smoking cessation programs and on-site blood pressure screenings for our employees. We weren’t sure what to expect when we started the wellness program, but we now feel that it is a win/win situation because it has shown benefits for employees by identifying and addressing some of their health care concerns while it is saving the company money by catching problems earlier and therefore lowering the health insurance costs. We plan to continue with and expand the wellness program going forward.”
